A woman has urged others to stay vigilant after sharing her experience of finding an unknown tracker on her car.
Small and portable trackers can be a great way to always know where your items, such as keys, phone, or luggage are. Some parents even opt to put some on their young children when visiting a forgein or busy place. However, they can also be used for illegal activities.
After Apple released the AirTags in 2021, more and more people, especially women, reported frightening encounters where AirTags and other small trackers were used as stalking devices that could be slipped in a purse or taped to a car.
Luckily, if you have an iPhone, your phone will send you a notification if you have a tracker nearby that’s following your movements. However, if this happens, they can still be difficult to find, especially if you don’t know where to look.
This was something to happend to Dina from London. Taking to TikTok, she explained she’d been driving to get some dinner in McDonalds when her phone suddenly issued a notification say it had detected a Loshall tag had been found moving with her.
“What do I do? Like, how on earth do I search my car?” she asked before the video ended, making viewers worry for her safety.
In a second video, Dina explained that the notification had made her drive to her nearest police station instead of driving home following the notification.
She recalled speaking to the receptionist and explaining how she was being tracked but was unable to find the tracker in her car. After taking her details, Dina was urged to visit the car dealership and have them remove and destroy the tracker for her.
She went on to tell viewers that no one had access to her car, except her parents, so she had no idea who might have added the tracker to her car… or so she thoughts.
In a third video, she revealed that she’d figured out who had put the tracker in her car, saying: “It was my parents. My parents put the tracker in my car. It wasn’t a stranger, I don’t have a stalker, unless you count my parents as the stalkers.”
Dina said her parents had called her to ‘own up to it’, explaining she had no idea why they had placed the tracker in her car in the first place.
“Am I done with them? Yes,” she told viewers at the end of the video.
Several people quickly took to the comment section to share their thoughts, as many agreed with Dina that her parents had crossed a line.
“As a parent, It would never occur to me to track my adult children. That’s insane,” one person commented.
A second viewer said: “Did they not have anything to say for themselves? It put you in fear for your life. Interesting they only confessed after you mentioned going to the police. I’m so sorry this happened.”
To this, Dina said: “They offered to explain. I told them I’m not interested in hearing whatever justification they have.”
However, someone else said: “Maybe incase the car got stolen or you went missing?”
