Netflix’s latest Knives Out instalment dropped this month, with speculation already mounting over a possible fourth film following the Wake Up Dead Man ending.
Wake Up Dead Man arrived on the streaming service following its late November cinema release, reuniting audiences with former 007 actor Daniel Craig as the enigmatic Detective Benoit Blanc.
Since its 2019 debut, the franchise has captured viewers’ imaginations as Craig’s unconventional sleuth tackles seemingly unsolvable mysteries.
This latest chapter sees Detective Benoit Blanc facing his “most dangerous case yet” alongside the well-intentioned yet inexperienced Rev. Jud Duplenticy (Josh O’Connor), as they investigate an apparently impossible murder.
Netflix reveals: “Detective Benoit Blanc teams up with an earnest young priest to investigate a perfectly impossible crime at a small-town church with a dark history.”, reports the Mirror.
Set in upstate New York, Wake Up Dead Man has dominated viewing schedules since arriving on Netflix on December 12. Yet audiences are already questioning whether a fourth chapter awaits.
Whilst no official confirmation has emerged regarding a fourth film, writer and director Rian Johnson hasn’t dismissed the possibility. In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, he revealed he’s already contemplating concepts for the murder mystery series’ next outing.
The announcement will delight devotees, though patience will be required as Rian has revealed he intends to complete at least one original film before revisiting the franchise, with the fourth Knives Out chapter remaining on hold until his next project advances significantly.
He told the publisher: “I don’t have a theme yet, I don’t have a location. It’s really pretty vague, and I feel like it’s good to kinda keep it vague until I’m ready to actually sit down and write it.”
In 2022, the director also confessed to Variety that he will continue making the films “as long as they’ll let me.”
Nevertheless, without official confirmation, audiences should prepare for a considerable wait if a fourth film materialises. The murder mystery franchise remains hugely popular with supporters, who have been expressing their enthusiasm online.
One viewer posted on social media: “Just saw “wake up dead man”and HOLY S*** just such a good movie kept me on my toes definitely. And the writing is 100 times better then knives out 12/10 definitely recommend watch it once before you die, the best movie that came out this year for sure.”
Another commented: “I showed #WakeUpDeadMan to in-laws last night. You see something new every time you watch it! On my third viewing right now!”.
The ensemble cast also features recognisable names including Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Kerry Washington and Andrew Scott.
