From its Advent calendars and beauty boxes to its weekly updated Star Gifts, Boots has been gearing up for Christmas since October. However, with just over 40 days to go, the retailer has released two new gift sets – and one is so popular that it has already sold out once.
Boots Beauty Stars gift sets are both filled with a mix of skincare, haircare and makeup products from popular brands. There are two to choose from, each costing £20, but according to Boots, the products inside each would cost around £70 if bought individually.
Stars of the Show features a selection of minis, including a Rituals body cream and an OPI nail polish, while Luxury Beauty Treats contains luxury minis from sought-after brands such as Nuxe and Sol de Janeiro.
Whether you’re after a little treat for yourself or looking for a little extra gift for a beauty lover in your life, both packages offer a fairly versatile range of items.
However, if you’re tempted by either of these gifts, you might want to be speedy. The Luxury Beauty Treats bauble sold out almost right away. Luckily, it has recently been restocked, but who knows how long we have before it sells out again.
The Stars of the Show bauble, though it retails for £20, is worth £68.40 if you were to buy the contents of the bauble individually. That means you’d be saving roughly £48.40. The beauty gift bundle is perfect if you’re looking to try a variety of products, as it includes hair, skincare, and nail products, so you’ll be well taken care of from head to toe.
For the face, there is a 50ml tube of Liz Earle’s iconic Cleanse and Polish cleanser, designed to cleanse the skin while keeping it hydrated. Used together with a muslin cloth, which is also included in the set, it helps gently exfoliate dead skin without irritating the face.
The set also includes a 15ml Bounce and Firm Serum from popular Korean brand Laneige, which claims to target early signs of ageing. On its own, the serum costs £22, so the set is a great way to get it for even less than buying it individually.
If your hair’s also feeling like it needs a boost, there is a 40ml tube of Philip Kingsley Bond Builder Treatment, a pre-shampoo treatment that is aimed at targeting split ends and dryness.
To get your nails ready for party season, there is an OPI gel-like polish in a festive, shimmery burgundy shade. It’s fairly versatile, but of course, if it’s too dark of a colour for you, it would make a fantastic stocking filler.
My favourite product in the bauble is a 70ml body cream from Rituals, from its The Ritual of Mehr range. I own this specific body cream, and love its rich texture and heavenly scent, a blend of sweet orange and cedarwood. It’s a warm, spicy scent that lingers on the skin for hours, and it’s perfect for the festive period. The versatile citrusy, woody notes also make it unisex, meaning it can be gifted to both men and women.
The Luxury Beauty Treats set contains a curated selection of minis from high-end brands, like Espa and Nuxe. Compared to the Stars of The Show Beauty Bauble, which features some skincare, it offers a wider range of makeup products. You’ll also find skincare and a spritz from cult-favourite Sol de Janeiro.
Inside, there are two full-sized products. For me, the real highlight is Milk Makeup’s multi-use Lip + Cheek stick in a gorgeous rosy terracotta shade. The buildable cream stick is great for adding a little colour to the lips and cheeks, and a great all-rounder to pop in your makeup bag. Plus, it’s compact enough to toss in your handbag for quick touch-ups on the go.
If you’ve been curious about lip plumping products, the set includes a lip serum from Nuxe, which comes in the form of a pink lip gloss. While it has rose oil and hyaluronic acid for hydration, the tingly, plumping effect comes from menthol and chilli extracts. The serum costs £22 on its own, so getting it as part of the set is a real bargain.
You’ll also find a mini body lotion from Espa, scented with jasmine and bergamot essential oils. And for hands that need a little extra TLC, there’s a restorative hand cream from Grown Alchemist, which is currently sold out on the Boots website. It’s packed with a blend of aloe vera, camellia and grapeseed oils to support and restore the skin barrier, and at 20ml it’s perfect for carrying around in your bag.
Finally, as a finishing touch, the set also includes a 30ml perfume mist by Sol De Janeiro, in the scent Cheirosa 40. The fragrance has notes of plum, vanilla and jasmine. Its travel size is also great for keeping in your bag for a quick spritz to refresh during the busy festive season.
