Shoppers praise £26 washable hallway rug that ‘looks great’

With autumn in full swing, muddy boots, wet paws and fallen leaves are fast becoming part of everyday life. Unfortunately, nowhere takes the hit more than the hallway. As the first place you step into, it’s the part of the home that collects the most dirt, moisture and debris. That’s why investing in a good mat, ideally a washable one, isn’t just about keeping things tidy, but saving your flooring too.

The Habitat washable black and white runner and mat set, priced at £26 at Argos, is a simple but stylish solution. The monochrome design fits into almost any decor, while the 150cm x 57cm runner isn’t huge, it gives plenty of coverage for narrow entryways.

It also comes with a matching smaller mat, ideal for placing just inside the door to catch the worst of the mud before it travels further into the house. This is only 40cm x 57cm, but is a nice extra to extend the runner or could be used in another room.

A runner can instantly make an entrance feel warmer, softer and more inviting, and is ideal if if you live in a home with tiled or wooden floors that can feel cold underfoot.

The Habitat set’s non-slip backing helps keep it safely in place, even when the floor is wet, and the flat-woven texture means doors can glide smoothly over the top without catching. Plus, it is easily washed at 30 degrees. It’s practical, and we think the geometric black-and-white pattern gives it a Scandi feel.

Customers have heaped praise on the rug set in reviews. One shopper wrote: “I’m very pleased with the quality, and the non-slip has a very good grip. It washed in the machine and came out well, too.” Another user added: “It looks great, does its job, is neutral in colour, and helps my dog stop skating around on the hard floor!”

A third, who had purchased multiples of these sets over the years, wrote that she’s found them to be “hard-wearing and easy to clean”.

However, some customers noted that they found the edges leaked fluff. One person wrote: “It’s ok but not the best quality, the edges are unfinished and shed the material.”

If you need something bigger, Habitat also has a bright stripe version, priced at just £20. It’s longer, measuring 180cm in length but with the same 57cm width.
