Sainsbury’s customers given £150 of Nectar points for 1 change | Personal Finance | Finance

Sainsbury’s is giving customers up to £150 worth of Nectar points for making one credit card change.

The supermarket chain says shoppers can bag a whopping 30,000 worth of Nectar points “for a limited time” when they apply for an American Express Nectar card. A total of 20,000 bonus points – which is worth at least £100 – will be awarded to those who apply for the credit card and get accepted between June 25 and July 2, so customers don’t have long left to cash in on the offer. A further 10,000 Nectar points will then be awarded if shoppers reach their bonus points spend target of 2,000 within the first three months.

Each Nectar point is worth half a penny, so 500 points will get you £2.50 off your shopping. But the value of the Nectar points can vary depending on where you choose to spend them and if you take advantage of any partner or special offers, which can sometimes boost the amount points are worth.

With the American Express Nectar credit card, customers can get 20,000 Nectar points simply by applying for the card and spending £2,000 within the first three months of their card membership.

Card holders can then collect a minimum of three Nectar points for every £1 spent when shopping using the credit card and their Nectar card at a participating Nectar partner, including Sainsbury’s, Argos, British Airways, Caffe Nero, Eurostar and Esso, among others. A total of two Nectar points will be awarded for every £1 spent on the credit card everywhere else.

In an email to customers, Sainsbury’s said: “You could bag 20,000 bonus points, worth at least £100. How? Get approved for an American Express Nectar Credit Card and spend £2,000 in your first 3 months. Pretty good right? Plus, for a limited time you could bag more.

“Here’s how: Apply and get accepted between 26 June – 2 July. Reach your bonus points spend target (£2,000 in your first three months). And, we will gift you an extra 10,000 bonus points, worth at least £50. Not to mention you will get your first year of Cardmembership free of charge!

“Representative 36.8% APR variable. 18+, subject to status. T&Cs and fees apply. Minimum salary £20,000. New Cardmembers only.”

To get the points, customers need to activate the offer in the Nectar app or apply online and be accepted for the American Express Nectar Credit Card by 23.59pm on July 2.

A total of £2,000 points must be spent in your first three months to collect the 20,000 bonus points and then the extra 10,000 points will be issued within 90 days after this spend has been reached.

Sainsbury’s adds: “The value doesn’t stop there. You could collect 19x more points to spend on tech, food and travel as an Amex Nectar Credit Cardmember. That’s why Cardmembers bag points worth at least £160 on average per year.”
