‘Overwhelming’ film with top rating fans call ‘a masterpiece’ | Films | Entertainment

A highly-anticipated film that continues a hit TV series is finally out in cinemas today (October 24), and it’s already receiving glowing reviews from fans.

Based on the popular horror manga series Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the story was previously adapted for television and is now making its debut on the big screen.

The gripping plot revolves around a boy who nearly loses his life while working for the yakuza, but ultimately merges with his pet dog to become an invincible entity that is part-human, part-chainsaw.

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc’s synopsis teases: “Denji worked as a Devil Hunter for the yakuza, trying to pay off the debt he inherited from his parents, until the yakuza betrayed him and had him killed. As he was losing consciousness, Denji’s beloved chainsaw-powered devil-dog, Pochita, made a deal with Denji and saved his life.

“This fused the two together, creating the unstoppable Chainsaw Man. Now, in a brutal war between devils, hunters, and secret enemies, a mysterious girl named Reze has stepped into his world, and Denji faces his deadliest battle yet, fuelled by love in a world where survival knows no rules.”, reports the Mirror.

Currently, the film holds a flawless 100 per cent critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences also giving it an impressive 99 per cent score, describing it as “dazzling” and even “overwhelming” to watch.

“Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc is nothing short of a masterpiece,” gushed one viewer. “From start to finish, the film delivers an emotional rollercoaster that perfectly balances jaw-dropping action, breathtaking animation, and heartbreaking storytelling.”

Meanwhile a second penned: “The film balances brutal fights with quiet, emotional moments that hit hard. Every frame feels alive, every sound perfectly placed. Even if you know how the story ends, it still crushes you in the best way.”

A third reviewer added: “I’m out from the theatre studio blown away with the sombre mood, melancholic, beautiful animation and deeply tragic movie. It’s difficult to move on even after the credits rolled. This is peak anime cinema with pretty amazing scores and music.”

Despite the extensive background material it’s based upon, numerous viewers reassured newcomers to Chainsaw Man that the film could be appreciated without any previous understanding of the storyline.

“I highly recommend anyone to watch this movie, even if you aren’t familiar with Chainsaw-Man, I’ll probably go again!” one fan shared in their review, as another assured would-be viewers: “This film is not only a must-see for fans of the anime and manga, but can also be enjoyed by new viewers who are unfamiliar with Denji.”
