Harry Potter fans are only just discovering that Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley in the wizarding franchise, was once engaged to a famous Stranger Things star.
Bonnie, 34, held the iconic role for 10 years, making her acting debut in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001 and remaining in the franchise until its end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
The actress, who has also appeared in independent films including Before I Sleep, The Sea and After the Dark, married her long-term boyfriend Andrew Lococo in 2022. The pair also welcomed their first child together, a son, in September 2023.
However, many fans have been surprised to know that Bonnie was previously engaged to none other than Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the villain Vecna in Netflix’s Stranger Things.
The pair became an item after meeting on the set of 2010’s The Deathly Hallows Part 1, in which Jamie played a young Gellert Grindelwald.
He later reprised the role in 2018, appearing in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Months after Jamie and Bonnie had met during filming, engagement rumours began to surface, with the pair confirming the news in April of the following year.
Jamie told the Daily at the time: “I am engaged. I’m very happy. It’s a wonderful, wonderful time.”
However, the pair split the following year in June 2012, with Jamie going on to reportedly date Emily in Paris actor Lily Collins on and off until 2018.
Most recently, he is reported to be dating YouTuber Elena Taber in April 2025.
Taking to social media, fans are still expressing their amazement at the worlds of Stranger Things and Harry Potter colliding, with many still only just realising Bonnie and Jamie were engaged.
“Learning that Ginny dated Vecna was not in my 2025 to do list,” one quipped, while another exclaimed: “BRUH Venca with Ginny.”
“Vecna and Ginny dated???” one more asked in surprise.
It comes as yet more cast members have been announced for HBO’s upcoming television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s popular Harry Potter book series, as well as the new audiobooks.
Hugh Laurie, Matthew Macfadyen, Keira Knightley and Riz Ahmed are the latest names attached to the magical franchise.
All eight Harry Potter films and all four seasons of Stranger Things are available to watch now on Netflix.
