First look at new movie from maker of ‘Nic Cage’s best film’ | Films | Entertainment

Film enthusiasts have been given a sneak peek at the upcoming romantic comedy featuring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya.

The film is the brainchild of the creator behind one of 2023’s standout films, The Drama, which sees the stars of The Batman and Spider-Man unite for a romantic-comedy drama.

While it’s set to hit US cinemas from 3 April 2026, a UK release date is yet to be announced.

According to the brief synopsis, the plot unfolds days before a couple’s wedding when their relationship is rocked by the discovery of unsettling truths about one another.

The supporting cast includes Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim and Hailey Gates, although character details remain under wraps.

Penned and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, The Drama may not fit the typical romcom mould if his previous work is anything to go by. Borgli was also behind Dream Scenario, released in 2023, reports the Mirror.

That film starred Nicolas Cage as University Professor Paul Matthews, a family man whose life spirals out of control when millions of strangers begin seeing him in their dreams. As his sudden fame escalates, he grapples with the mounting attention and questions about what is truly happening.

The film has garnered a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with some critics drawing parallels to Netflix’s popular anthology series Black Mirror. Many have hailed it as the best release of the year and one of Nic Cage’s standout performances.

Like that film, The Drama’s release is being managed by renowned indie studio A24. Earlier this week, they released a faux engagement announcement for the film’s central couple.

The notice was featured in the Boston Globe alongside the newspaper’s romance advice column.

The announcement offered further insight into the characters’ backgrounds, stating: “Mr and Mrs Roger Harwood of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emma Harwood, to Charlie Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of London, England. Mr Harwood, a decorated military veteran, is proud to share this joyous news.

“Miss Harwood is a 2013 graduate of Portside High School and a 2017 honours graduate of Boston University, where she earned her BA degree in English. She is currently employed at Mission Books.

“The future groom, Mr Thompson, was a 2004 graduate of Eaton College and went on to earn his PhD in Art History from Tufts University. He serves as the Director of Cambridge Art Museum. The couple will wed on April 3, 2026.”

Days after the announcement, the same image was unveiled as the film’s poster. It features a candid, slightly grainy photograph of the couple, with Zendaya’s character proudly displaying her engagement ring.

The Drama is expected to release in cinemas April 3, 2026 in the US, with a UK release to be confirmed. Dream Scenario is streaming on Prime Video.
