President Donald Trump welcomed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman at the White House on Sunday.
The meeting comes as the U.S. and Saudi Arabia seek to deepen their military, economic, and diplomatic relations.
The crown prince was greeted with a grand welcome ceremony on the South Lawn, marking the most elaborate and lavish arrival of a foreign leader at the White House during Trump’s second administration. Lip reader Nicola Hickling told the Daily Express U.S. about the exchange between the leaders.
“We made it happen for your arrival, look over there,” the lip reader claims Trump told the crown prince in 10 words that showed the deep respect Washington feels for the Saudi Arabian leader.
The prince was greeted with a military band, procession, and an F-35 and F-15 fight jet flying. He then followed the president into the White House and along the Colonnade to the Oval Office.
The de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia made his first White House visit since the 2018 killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The U.S.-Saudi relationship had been sent into a tailspin after the death of Khashoggi, a fierce critic of the kingdom, that U.S. intelligence agencies later determined Prince Mohammed likely directed the agents to carry out. Prince Mohammed has always denied involvement in the killing of Khashoggi, a Saudi citizen and Virginia resident.
According to Hickling, Trump told the prince upon meeting: “It’s so good to see you. Doesnt it look different from before?”
To which he replied: “Yes, most definitely.”
Trump then added: “We made it happen for your arrival, look over there.” The president later continued: “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
The meeting also came a day after President Trump said he would approve the sale of F-35 advanced fighter jets to Saudi Arabia. Trump also visited Saudi Arabia in May 2025.
The White House’s entrance was adorned with a lengthy red carpet, and members of the U.S. armed forces held up the Saudi Arabian flags in anticipation of the arrival of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, also known as MBS.
Video footage also captured a military flyover, a band performance, and military members trotting on horseback as Trump stood alongside the 40-year-old prince. The two conversed with each other as the festivities commenced, and then walked into the White House.
DON’T MISS…
Trump told MBS: “It’s so good to see you. Doesn’t it look different from before?” according to Hickling.
“Yes, most definitely,” MBS replied.
The two were expected to discuss security guarantees, access to AI technology, and advancing a deal on a civilian nuclear program.
“I want to thank you because you’ve agreed to invest $600bn into the United States, and because he’s my friend, he might make it a trillion, but I’m going to have to work on him,” Trump said, referring to MBS.
Bin Salman then said in response that Saudi Arabia “believes in the future of America” and is going to increase its pledge to almost $1tn of investment in the United States.
