‘Cheery’ Christmas film with huge star feels like ‘warm hug’ | Films | Entertainment

Widely dubbed as Lindsay Lohan’s comeback film, this 2022 romantic comedy makes for a lighthearted, cheerful watch this Christmas season.

Debutant director Janeen Damian’s film Falling for Christmas is the perfect movie to kick back, relax, and watch with a steaming cup of hot chocolate during the festive period.

With a screenplay by Jeff Bonnett and Ron Oliver, the film marks Lohan’s first major role and production in over a decade, as she returned to the big screen after battling a series of personal crises as she reportedly recovered from addiction and legal issues.

The film stars Chord Overstreet as the male lead opposite Lohan and sees George Young, Jack Wagner and Olivia Perez appear in supporting roles and it’s currently streaming on Netflix.

The movie’s official summary says: “A newly engaged, spoiled hotel heiress gets into a skiing accident, suffers from total amnesia and finds herself in the care of a handsome, blue-collar lodge owner and his precocious daughter in the days leading up to Christmas.”

Falling for Christmas’ filming commenced in Utah in early November of 2021 and wrapped the following month. Both Lohan and Overstreet, alongside Lohan’s sister Aliana recorded songs for the Christmas film which were featured on the movie’s soundtrack.

Scoring 62 percent in critics approval ratings on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, Falling for Christmas received largely positive reviews, leaving critics and fans excited over Lohan’ silver screen comeback.

While one critic said: “Some actors shoot for Oscars, and that’s great. Lohan’s magic power has always been bringing to life films that have the simple goal of being unchallenging delights. It’s for that and that alone, Falling for Christmas is a gift.”

Another, praising the energy and nostalgia Lohan brings to the screen, added: “Lindsay Lohan’s return to romantic comedies feels like the best kind of homecoming for 90s kids. Lohan was a tremendous part of our lives growing up, and having her in a Christmas film as adults feels like a warm hug of sorts.”

Yet another reviewer said: “The overall mood is warm and cheery, and Lohan brings a spontaneous sincerity to even the corniest scenes. The movie’s wrapping is shiny and plastic, but its star quality is genuine.”

And one critic added: “Fortunately Falling for Christmas has all the elements I need to make a cozy holiday film work. The stars have chemistry, the silly antics work and the whole thing brings all the feels.”

One glowing audience review of the film reads: “This is a great Christmas movie, the movie looks wonderfully, the story is heartwarming and flows well, I think this is the best Christmas movie I have seen this year so far. 10/10 .”

While another impressed fan said: “A really great movie. Lindsay Lohan was terrific as was the rest of the cast. Great scenery and a nice story. This is a very enjoyable 90 minutes, do not miss it.”

And yet another happy audience member wrote: “The first film of the Lohanaissance! It’s wonderful to have Lindsay back in new movies again and she shines in Falling for Christmas! Definitely a new Christmas film classic! Fun, heartwarming and just the right amount of feel good Christmas magic in it!”
